Religious Themes

Our film is going to be based on a religious/political conspiracy to restore the Monarchy. So, we decided that theme of Religion should play a big part in the opening sequence that we are going to make.
One of the key parts of the film, and the opening sequence, is going to be based on a section from the Bible; upon looking for relevant sections from Scripture, we found an interesting and relevant section from a psalm.
Psalm 37:37-40 which reads as follows:

"37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.
40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
"

We thought that this was a good section because it showed that the main character could be seen as a fanatic who takes the words from the Bible literally, even that means mis-interpreting those words.
We also decided that we were going to show that the main character is deeply 'into' his faith through the features inside the house (i.e. religious symbols etc.).
We have also discussed the possibility of adding religious music (choral possibly) into the opening sequence.

Overall, we all came to the conclusion that this character's religious traits should be 'on show' in the opening sequence as this would show the character's 'true colours'. After all, we slightly changed the sub-genre that the film was going to be in (from political to religious).

Our Film Treatment.

From the beginning, we as a group decided to put our film out as a 15 certificate. We wanted to aim it at a wider age range as possible, we felt that the content within suited a 15 and no younger. The concept of the film meant there wasn't a need for an 18 certificate because the people in the plot aren't able to swear, have sex etc. We haven't got any visible gory violence so the certificate is viable. We originally thought along the lines of a political thriller, it quickly became apparent that this was too ambitious as a genre because of our limited resources. It would also be hard to keep the interest over a 2 minute period using this genre. Then our idea progressed from that to a film which mostly focuses on religious aspects in a political context.
